(Huntsville, TX) — Texas has put to death a Mexican national for killing a Houston police officer.
Edgar Tamayo was executed Wednesday night for shooting Officer Guy Gaddis to death in 1994. The Department of Corrections says Tamayo declined to make a last statement.
He’d attempted to get federal courts to stop the execution, but the courts ruled he filed his petition too late. The execution took place about an hour after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay for Tamayo.
Texas had been pressured by the State Department to not kill Tamayo on claims it would hurt relations with Mexico.
