The No. 24 Texas Tech women’s soccer team went undefeated this weekend with a strong performance at the Arizona ‘Cats Classic in Tuscon, Ariz.
Friday, the Red Raiders defeated Arizona State, 1-0, with a goal in the 100th minute from sophomore forward Brianna Rohmer. Sophomore Janine Beckie led the team with six shots, and senior goalkeeper Victoria Esson earned her 18th career shutout that night. Texas Tech outshot the Sun Devils 14-12.
Tech defeated host Arizona 2-0 on Sunday. Beckie stole the show, netting both goals in the victory. She had as many shots (four) as the rest of the Red Raiders combined. Esson had a clean sheet yet again, the 19th shutout of her career.
Arizona outshot the Red Raiders 16-8, but failed to convert any of those opportunities into goals.
With the two wins, Texas Tech has extended their winning streak to four and their record to 7-1 overall. They have allowed just one goal in the previous four games, which is second only to Baylor in the Big 12 Conference this season.
The Red Raiders will now prepare to play at the Jack-in-the-Box Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend against UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara.
