(Fort Hood, TX) — Day one of the sentencing phase of the court-martial of Nidal Hasan is over at Fort Hood. Hasan could face the death penatly for carrying out the shooting massacre at the Army post in 2009.
Base officials say testimony in Nidal Hasan’s trial had to end due to “logistical issues.” Before the dismissal, jurors heard from 12 witnesses, including the father of Private Franschska Velez. He told jurors he’s been dying slowly every since Velez and her unborn son were killed. He also said Velez’ death “killed me down to the bottom of my soul.” Hasan was convicted last week of killing Velez and 12 others.
