After beating Oklahoma State 10-0 in six innings to open Texas Tech’s first Big 12 Conference series of the 2013 season on March 28, it looked as though the Red Raiders were going to roll through the rest of the weekend.
But that wasn’t the case.
The Cowgirls rebounded and held the Red Raiders to just two more runs the rest of the series pulling off a 2-1 victory in 10 innings and 4-1 win to secure the series win.
Tech (27-14, 1-2 in Big 12 play) returns to the diamond at home this weekend, for the first time since hosting playing Troy on March 11 at Rocky Johnson Field, taking on Kansas for its first home Big 12 series this spring.
The Jayhawks (21-10, 0-3) enter the game leading not only the Big 12 but also the country in team batting average with a .364 mark, while the Red Raiders check in at number 21 nationally with a batting average of .323.
The last time these two teams met was on April 28, 2012 in a double header in Lawrence with Tech taking the first game 4-1, but losing the second 5-4.
The Red Raiders will look to open Big 12 play at home for the second-straight season with a sweep, in 2012 Tech swept Iowa State in a three-game set to improve to 12-24 overall in Big 12 home openers since joining the conference in 1996.
Tech and Kansas get the series underway tonight at Rocky Johnson Field with first pitch set for 7 p.m., then play on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
All the games can be heard right here on KTXT The Raider 88.1 FM with the Red Raider Softball Pregame show beginning 30 minutes prior to first pitch of each game.
