300 “Straight A” Ninth Graders to Explore Engineering at Texas Tech
WHAT:           Field trip to explore engineering for 9th graders to Texas Tech
WHEN:           9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friday (April 26)

WHERE:         Allen Theater, Texas Tech Student Union Building

EVENT:          The Whitacre College of Engineering will host 300 “straight A” ninth grade students from towns across West Texas on the Texas Tech campus for a one-day “Explore Engineering” field trip.  The event is funded by the Halliburton Education Foundation and aims at encouraging young students to explore the field of engineering in college. It is an effort to reward academic excellence of students and to attract student groups which are typically underrepresented in engineering. Participants will explore engineering through laboratory tours and exciting hands-on activities and challenges offered by professional engineering student organizations. They will learn useful information about going to college and Texas Tech traditions.

Participants will be welcomed by Audra Morse, associate dean of undergraduate studies in the Whitacre College of Engineering and representatives from Halliburton at 9:30 a.m. in the Allen Theatre. Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., participants will visit research laboratories on campus in small groups.
