FLAGSTAFF – The Hualapai tribal corporation that managed the Grand Canyon Skywalk filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week. This comes after a federal judge upheld a $28 million judgement in favor of the Skywalk developer.
Las Vegas Developer David Jin built the horseshoe shaped glass overlook on the west rim of the Grand Canyon. Jin said the ticket sales were owed to him under a 2003 contract with the Hualapai Tribe.
Sa’ Nyu Wa, the Hualapai Tribe’s corporate entity, is appealing the judge’s ruling. Another tribal corporation now is operating the Skywalk and hired employees from Sa’ Nyu Wa.
Sa’ Nyu Wa has assets up to $10 million but owes creditors as much as $50 million, according to court documents.
