TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY- Hello sugars! I’m Anita Hamilton from KTXT radio Texas Tech. Texas Tech smoking policy is very controversial when asked amongst students at Texas Tech most feel that the policies are correct and very appropriate others feel differently. Here is what students have to say.
STUDENT 1: “I absolutely agree that there shouldn’t be smoking in any buildings or even close to the doors, you know? It brings cancer to us and it causes so many illnesses. I absolutely agree with Tech’s policy of no smoking.”
STUDENT 2: “I think that smoking policy is amazing because smoking is really hazardous to your health.”
Most students felt Texas Tech policy stand correct with the common beliefs about smoking hazards toward people, yet other students felt a little indifferent about smoking policies at Tech.
STUDENT 3: “Personally I enjoy smoking so I think Texas Tech’s policies are too strict.”
STUDENT 4: “Sure. I mean I’m not a smoker so maybe my judgment isn’t valid but I think that its fair that you have to stand 10 feet from the door that way people who don’t want to inhale your cigarette smoke don’t have to.”
Students couldn’t even understand the policies towards distance between smoking among buildings. Others felt policies weren’t respected enough among students who smoke.
STUDENT 5: “I like that you can’t smoke in buildings and that there is a 20 foot from the door. But I don’t think people ever respect the 20 foot from the door smoking area.”
STUDENT 6: “Policies that people don’t follow them because being a foot away from the door is not 20 feet. I’m trying to go in and I smell all this. I mean I don’t mind used smoke I have friends that smoke, whatever.”
Smoking policies are to secure the free environment at Tech. The policies are rather bended and unknown among students who smoke and don’t smoke at Tech. This is Anita Hamilton and I’m signing out with KTXT The Raider 88.1.
