Summer Heat Returns

High temperatures will remain in the 90’s through the upcoming work-week. In fact, Lubbock may approach 100 degrees, during the afternoon, by late this week or next weekend.

Is It Really July?

Following a record-breaking heat spell last week, west Texas has cooled down significantly. In fact, Lubbock experienced below average temperatures both Sunday and Monday. The cooler weather will stick around for a couple more days.

Heat Wave?

High temperatures soared to over 100 degrees on Tuesday. This heat will continue through the work-week, due to a ridge of high pressure, which has been slowly building into the South Plain over the last several days.

Tuesday’s Foecast

A ridge of high pressure is continuing to build into west Texas. High pressure is associated with ‘sinking air’, which makes it difficult for clouds to develop; let alone showers and thunderstorms.

Monday’s Forecast

Hot weather will continue into this evening, with temperatures topping-out in the mid 90’s across Lubbock. Muggy mornings, hot afternoons, and isolated thunderstorm chances will stay in the forecast for the next few days.

Thursday’s Forecast

A ridge of high pressure will build into west Texas, leading to fewer daily thunderstorms, beginning today. However, there is still a slight chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, mainly across the western South Plains, late today. However, once storms develop, they will move north and east, towards the greater Lubbock metro this evening.

Wednesday’s Forecast

Overnight thunderstorms could stick around into Wednesday morning. Gusty winds, brief heavy rain, & vivid lightning are all possible with the strongest thunderstorms. However, most of the storm activity should move out of the region by daybreak, Wednesday morning.

Your Weekend Forecast

After a hot and dry week across west Texas, a transition to a more unsettled weather pattern is underway. Higher moisture levels moved into the South Plains Thursday morning, allowing for slightly cooler afternoon highs.
