Album Review: “The Car” by Arctic Monkeys

As a Arctic Monkeys fan, it is exciting to finally hear a new album from them. The Car is the seventh album to be added to their discography. From their past work they’ve always had that driving rock groove, but with this album they have switched to a laid back chill tone.

This album has a melancholy calm sense behind it, which isn’t what you would expect but it’s great. For example, the song  “The Car” perfectly combines that feeling and is such a slow jam with an Arctic Monkeys spin on it.

Then there is “Big Ideas” that has a beautiful orchestra behind Alex’s crisp voice that is so pleasing to the ear. You would think if you heard this you wouldn’t believe it to be the Arctic Monkeys, but I think it fits them so well.

I have to say Alex turner’s vocals are the cherry on top of this album. With songs like “Jet Skis On The Moat” and “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball” his voice is just phenomenal on those tracks. It doesn’t just stop with those, all the songs on this album his voice perfectly ties everything together like magic.

Overall, Arctic Monkeys have proven that evolving their sound is what mature artists do and don’t keep themselves in a box. “The Car” is a piece that can be enjoyed at any time and still give those classic vibes to the listener.
