Album Review: “Blue Rev” by Alvvays

After five years, Alvvays have just released their third album “Blue Rev”.  For my first listen, it was a joyride of fun sound with a carefree feeling. This album reasserts what is good about Alvvays but they reimagine it on this album.

“Blue Rev” has that classic indie rock feel to it but there were also hints of eighties tones on some songs on the album too. The first song that caught my eye was “Easy on your own?”. The reason was I loved that it turned a little heavy with the guitars but still kept that indie with it as well.

Then there was the song “Tile by Tile” which also became a favorite of mine as well. It gives a very chill vibe to it but it has very graceful melodies from the instrumental behind it as well. The lyrics are the bow on top that really pulls this song all together too. If you need a new song for your late night drive playlist, this would definitely fit that feeling.

Overall, this thirty-eight minute new album from Alvvays was a fun first listen. I really enjoyed listening to this album because it gives this feeling of a classic sound but a unique twist to them. From someone who has just recently got to experience Alvvays music, I highly suggest this new album for anyone to enjoy.
