Album Review: “Asphalt Meadows” by Death Cab For Cutie

Listening to Death Cab For Cutie’s new album was a blast. After four years from their last album, they have come back with a punch. For a first time listener like me, they had me hooked by the first song. The album gives the classic indie vibe made for a fall day of studying.
The songs “I Miss Strangers” and “Here to Forever” show the complexity of their album. Like “Here to Forever” gives classic indie rock that everyone loves to hear. With ‘I Miss Strangers” I feel they play more of that eighties alternative sound like The Cure.
My personal favorite of the album would be “Foxglove Through The Clearcut”. It is like spoken poetry with beautiful melodies behind it blended together perfectly. In between the spoken part there are soft vocals that make you feel like you are floating in the ocean. Normally I am not a fan of music like this but this song really caught my ears’ attention.
Overall, Death Cab For Cutie has created an album that cultivates all different styles into one masterful piece of work. If you are looking for that chill indie feel for a cloudy day, I definitely suggest this album for that.
