The whole of Famously Alive, released in March of this year, caught me with an impressively pleasant surprise! There’s a sense of found appreciation within the creative process that went into this album – both from a lyrical and musical standpoint. With the two combined, if the songs were to have an image, I can’t help but picture a multitude of vividly fluorescent colors.
Happy Me and Famously Alive both give me a feeling of purpose, while also highlighting life in and of itself. Clearly, there’s a significant feeling of meaning throughout this whole album outside of my own feelings. Each song holds a psychedelic boldness, with the lyrics themselves seeming conversational, where I walked away with thoughts and impact.
With the knowledge of what brought this album into existence (Carlson’s road to recovery), Guerilla Toss has impeccably brought up the reminder that existence itself, to be alive, is something to be joyful and celebrated wherever you are. I believe that this is what makes the album special in a way that I often don’t see, as it was the album itself, rather than one song portraying this message.
On another note, I loved Carlson’s voice in Famously Alive. She seems far yet close at the same time, as if she’s intertwined into the music. Both coming together to create a blend of, once again, joy and bold brightness. I don’t think either of the two could have been as impactful without the other.
After hearing this album, and Guerilla Toss for the first time, I am soon to check out more of their songs!
