A Way Forward is the second album released by alternative group Nation of Language. This album reminds me a lot of the first album review I did, “Joshua” by French 79. A Way Forward has this retro, techno sound that seems reminiscent of the 1980s.
“Across That Fine Line” is a standout song on the album. The song carries a faster paced beat throughout and during the chorus gets even more upbeat than before. This song adds energy to the album and is a must listen. One complaint I do have about the song is the music break and opening instrumental are a bit long. I feel like the music break in the middle of the song kills the energy just a bit.
The song that follows “Across That Fine Line” is “Wounds of Love”. This song is paced great and is the perfect follow up to a very upbeat track. It tones down the album a bit, but not so much that there seems to be a complete shift in mood. This song has a more traditional pop sound and could easily appeal to people who prefer pop music over alternative and indie songs.
Overall, this album was good. It has entries that can attract a wide variety of listeners and can even aid in a killer workout.
