Thursday: Oklahoma Goes up Two Sets to One
The first set went back-and-forth with 13 ties and 10 lead changes.
Texas Tech started a run to gain a four-point lead, 15-11.
Oklahoma came back with a 5-1 run to tie the set at 16-16, but the Red Raiders started to inch ahead again.
The Red Raiders could not convert on two set points at 24-22, and the set continued for 10 more points until the Sooners finally converted on their third set point to take the set 30-28.
Texas Tech stormed out to a 9-3 lead in the second set with two aces from freshman Maddie Correa, and the Red Raiders capitalized on three kills each from four different players as they took the set 25-20.
Tech kept the third set within two points until they were down 15-13.
Oklahoma only lost three more points in the third set as senior outside hitter Savannah Davison had three kills and two blocks to carry the Sooners to a 25-16 third set.
Thursday: Tech Takes the Fourth and Leads in the Fifth but Fails to Capitalize
Seven kills and a block from junior outside hitter Caitlin Dugan propelled the Red Raiders to a 25-18 fourth set and force a deciding fifth set.
The fifth set looked good for Tech as they got out to a 5-2 lead with three kills and an ace.
Oklahoma roared back with a 7-1 run to go up 9-6 in the set, but they were forced to hold off one more run from the Red Raiders, who tied the set at 12-12.
Oklahoma senior Davison, who transferred from New Mexico State, got her 26th and 27th kills to set a career-high in kills and give the Sooners the match 15-13 in the fifth set.
Davison’s 27 kills led the Sooners, who also got 16 kills from freshman Megan Wilson and 11 kills and six blocks from senior Paige Anderson.
Tech had four players with at least ten kills in junior Caitlin Dugan (14), senior Karrington Jones (12), junior Reagan Cooper (10) and senior Brooke Kanas (10).
Jones also added seven blocks to lead both teams in the category.
Friday: Texas Tech Domination from Start to Finish
The first set Friday started to look a lot like the first set Thursday. The Red Raiders and Sooners tied 10 times, with the last tie at 15-15.
The Red Raiders went on a 10-1 run that ended with a kill from Cooper to take the set 25-16.
Seven of Tech’s 16 kills in the first set were in the last 10 points.
Texas Tech briefly lost the lead at 5-4 in the second set after a 4-0 run from the Sooners, but it was not enough to overcome 18 kills from the Red Raiders, including five kills and a block from Dugan.
In the third set, Oklahoma won the first point. They never had a lead again.
The Red Raiders went on to win eight straight points and carry that lead to a 25-16 third set to split the series and get their first Big 12 sweep of the season.
Junior outside hitter Kenna Sauer, a transfer from Missouri, rebounded from her nine-kill performance on Thursday to rack up 17 kills Friday in just three sets.
Sauer, who leads the Red Raiders in kills on the season, had eight of her 17 kills in the third set and a season-high .394 hitting percentage in the match Friday.
Texas Tech had a season-high .398 hitting percentage on Friday, topping their .392 hitting percentage September 17 against UAB.
