Album Review: “All The Ways We Are Together” by Dreamer Boy

Nashville Tennessee artist Zach Taylor and his roommate who is also a producer collaborated to make Dreamer Boy and their debut album, “Love, Nostalgia” which was released in 2018. Since then, the band has released 3 singles in 2018, “Falling for the Wrong One”, “Orange Girl”, “Fever”. As well as the singles, “Dreamer” and “Puppy Dog” in 2019 and “Know You”, “Crybaby”, and “Don’t be a Fool” in 2020.

The band describes their latest album as “Hushed bedroom pop that wears its heart on its sleeve”, this is very fitting for the soft tones of the album. The band is a mix of indie-pop and has a whimsical, manic pixie vibe, which I find very soothing.

The album starts off with the album’s namesake song, “All The Ways We Are Together”, a compelling series of sounds that starts off the song before it turns into something deeper, it becomes a song about how incredible individuality is. The next song, “Know You”, has a really fun beat, it’s the kind of song that gets played in teen rom-com movies. Although the following song “Joy” is short and sweet, the guitar kicks this song off in a very sensual way, the epitome of bedroom pop up there with “Leave the Door Open” by Bruno Mars. “Crybaby” is a soft indie pop song about wanting to be stronger for the person you love but that person loving you regardless of being a softie. The song, “Bike”, is beautiful but twinged with a melancholy sound that is paralleled with soft hopeful lyrics. “Don’t be a Fool” really showcases some of the cowboy pop that the band is known for through the acoustic guitar and some of the more classic country sounds. Following that “Sweatshirt” has a very pop sound and this song is reminiscent of the Australian artist Troye Sivan’s “Blue Neighborhood”. The next song, “Let’s Hold Hands”, kicks off with the soft tinkling of bells before the melodic voices of Zach Taylor and Melanie Faye come through to sing about being in love with someone close to them. “All Our Dreams Came True” has a soothing beat and gentle electric guitar that adds to this song’s whimsical feel. The song “Lightspeed” does a complete 180 from the feel of the previous song, it’s upbeat and fast-paced to go along with its name. “Mesa” is another one of the songs that would fit really well in a teen rom-com movie, but in general would be used in a much more melancholy sense. Keeping with this theme of a slower sad tone, “Shoreline” has much more pop-sounding vocals, but the lyrics are twinged with a hint of sadness and hope as well. “Easier Said Than Done” shifts the album back to a more upbeat summer fun sound that focuses on trying to stay positive and understanding that it’s difficult to do. “August” brings back the sensual tone in the album with the chorus and the slow beat. The second to last song on the album, “Best of Me” is an upbeat song about being love and is a ballad about that special someone. “All Or Nothing” closes out the album with a gentle sound and lyrics about taking the risk to be in love.

The album “All The Ways We Are Together” is perfect for your summer playlists and those in love with the idea of love. Fans of Troye Sivan should definitely give this album a listen and keep an eye on all upcoming Dreamer Boy albums.
