Spirit of the Beehive released their debut album in 2016 called “The Spirit of the Beehive”, followed by their second album “Pleasure Suck” in 2017, succeeded by “Hypnic Jerks” in 2018, and lastly by their newest album “ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH” in 2021. The band has also released one EP called “You Are Arrived (But You’ve Been Cheated) in 2016 and a single titled “The Door Is Open” in 2020.
The album kicks off with the song “ENTERTAINMENT” which features a very long intro of beats, with a shift just before the middle of the song that changes the tone and pace of the song, it becomes much softer. The next song, “THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN’T DO”, cuts the vocals in and out in a unique ominous kind of way at the beginning of the song but the rest of the vocals are softer until the shift later in the song back to those exceptional vocals that we heard at the start of the song. “WRONG CIRCLE” has an intro that is similar to white noise until the beat kicks up and the song overall has a very lo-fi vibe to it. The song “BAD SON” is one of my favorite songs on the album because the vocals are so soothing. Following this up, “GIVE UP YOUR LIFE” is my favorite song on this album because it has really neat glitches in it that add to the transitions. The song “RAPID & COMPLETE RECOVERY” also has a very lo-fi sound to it and by that, I mean that it has very calming beats with little to no vocals. “THE SERVER IS IMMERSED” picks up with the vocals fairly quickly and has a very gentle and relaxing sound to it. Following that, “IT MIGHT TAKE SOME TIME” which has a very indie sound with both the vocals and the beats, the song also features a unique ending. The song, “WAKE UP (IN ROTATION)” gives me Grouplove vibes from the overall sound, another one of my favorites on this album. “I SUCK THE DEVIL’S COCK” is not really what I was expecting, in the best way, the song is really fun despite the darker tone the lyrics take. The last song on the album “DEATH”, is surprisingly soft and has really beautiful vocals.
