Album of the Week: “Music” by Benny Sings

Dutch singer, songwriter, and producer Benny Sings is back with his eighth studio album. Benny, whose real name is Tim van Berkestijn, has compilated a solid 30 minutes of breezy yacht rock, R&B, and indie fusions.

One of the best things about this album is its features. “Rolled Up” features indie powerhouse Mac Demarco, “Run Right Back” sees a collaboration with new-wave R&B artist Cautious Clay, and Pop-soul artist Emily King takes the track “Miracles” to new heights.

Benny has definitely brought influences from some of his past collaborations onto this album, as well. This can be seen in the projects he’s worked on between this album and his previous- including some production work with Rex Orange County and The Free Nationals. That spunky R&B influence is definitely present on this record, adding some groove and bounce to an otherwise quiet project.

All in all, this album is definitely worth a listen as you prepare for warmer weather and clear skies.

Favorite tracks: “Rolled Up”, “Miracles”, “Here It Comes”, “Nobody’s Fault”, “Run Right Back”.
