Album of the Week: “Glowing in the Dark” by Django Django

For every indie music lover, Django Django has been at the top of mind when thinking about revolutionary bands that have helped shape the genre into what it is today. Since the release of their debut LP almost a decade ago, Django Django have been at the forefront of indie, since collaborating with many other influential artists such as MGMT and Hot Chip, as well as snagging a Mercury Prize for their previously mentioned debut.

In “Glowing in the Dark”, Django Django creates an escapist sound that feels like driving down a desert highway on a summer day. The band seamlessly blends together elements of classic indie and dance hall that are present on their previous projects, as well as some apparent nods folk and western. Add on a sprinkle of psych-rock, and you’ve got the incredibly pleasant listening experience that is this album.

Even when the pandemic is over and we no longer have to dream of escaping to long stretches of sand or sea, this album will be at the forefront of my playlist.

Favorite tracks: “Spirals”, “Right the Wrongs”, “Kick the Devil Out”, “Asking For More”.
