The Edinburg High School football player who attacked a referee will not be able to play sports for the rest of the academic year.
The University Interscholastic League voted Monday morning to suspend Emmanuel Duron from all sponsored activities.
Duron became angry at the referee earlier this month after being ejected from a playoff game.
He has been charged with assault and has apologized for the attack.
The Edinburg High athletics department was also put on probation for two years, and Duron’s coach was given a one-year probation.
