Album Review: Wachito Rico by Boy Pablo

Boy Pablo is a Norwegian indie-pop artist. He has been creating music since 2015. Boy Pablo has had a few eps released, but Wachito Rico is the artist’s first full-length album. The first track on this album titled I Hope She Loves Me Back is a great starting track that lets the listener get a sense and feel of the music Boy Pablo creates. It is a nice track that is catchy and sounds very similar to the likes of Rex Orange County or Mac Demarco. The next track Hey Girl is another catchy song with the singer falling in love with this girl and confessing his feelings for this girl. The vocal work on this track and the whole album is great.

Tracks like Leave Me Alone, Honey, and Rest Up continue this trend of great tracks that are very catchy. It makes the listener just want to dance and sing along lyric to lyric. The next track Te Vas/Don’t Leave is a slower song with the singer telling us about their significant other leaving them. The song is a nice change of pace and shows this emotional side of Boy Pablo with his past heartbreaks. The same goes for Aleluya still a slower-paced song, but this song is just a string of instruments playing. No vocals needed to help drive the point.

Come Home goes back on the catchy side of this album. Most of this album is just very cheerful and joyful. Mustache is probably the most unique song on this album. The song is about the singer dreaming of having a mustache like Tom Selleck. Vamos A La Playa is a great interlude to get the listener ready for Wachito Rico. This song feels like a party or fiesta is happening and it’s great.

Nowadays is another short interlude with the singer talking about his life getting brighter. The last track on this album is titled I <3 U. It is another slower song about two people losing touch with each other. It is a nice soft closing track for this album. Overall, Wachito Rico is an amazing album. It has some catchy songs, and it has some emotional songs. If you like Rex Orange County or Mac Demarco then you will easily love Boy Pablo’s debut album.
