Album Review: Giver Taker by Anjimile

Anjimile is an up and coming neofolk singer that is based in Boston, Massachusetts. Anjimile debut album Giver Taker is great start for this neofolk singer. This project starts with the intro track titled Your Tree. This track is a beautiful intro into this album with Anjimile’s amazing vocals that give the lyrics more feeling. The next track, Baby No More is one of my favorite tracks off this project with Anjimile vocals and the catchiness of the song.

The next track called In Your Eyes is a slower song with a lot more emotion than the last two tracks which were more catchy songs. The same goes with 1978, a song about Anjimile dealing with the loss of a beloved family member. This song just like In Your Eyes is a slower tempo song with Anjimile’s vocals showing emotion each lyric. The next couple of tracks are more of the same with Not Another Word and Maker. These songs are with soft vocals and soft instruments.

The next track Ndimakukonda has some chorus that sounds like its from the Lion King, which was one of the influences going into this album. The next track, Giver Taker is another song about dealing with the loss of a loved one. Lyrics like “All is calm, All is bright, All is warm in the light, As you rest may you find peace of heart”.

The final track in this album is called To Meet You There. This track is a great closer to this project. This song has what this project had throughout the album is beautiful vocals. Anjimile debut album is an amazing first project. The neofolk of each song is catchy, while Anjimile’s vocals are delicate and soft. Giver Taker is an amazing project that people should give a chance.
