Cayucas is a Los Angeles based band that is known for their surf pop music. Formerly known as Oregon Bike Trials, the band consists of twin brothers Zach and Ben Yudin. Their latest project titled Blue Summer is an album that I would take to the beach to enjoy the sun and ocean with its surfer pop vibes. First track of the album Yeah Yeah Yeah sets the tone for this album. Right off the gate this song makes the listener feel the vibrant and sunny sounds that Cayucas are well known for. Throughout the album’s duration you get these melodic and rhythmic tones. The next track Malibu ’79 Long sounds like a throwback Beach Boys song with a mix of drums and guitar chords that sounds straight from the 60s/70s.
The next track continues these good surfer vibes with the next track California Girl. This track is one of my favorites off the album. This song is about seeing this beautiful dream girl everywhere he goes. This song continues with the rhythmic tones throughout the track. The next track Lonely Without You as well continues these rhythmic tones that keeps the listener in a chill mood. Red-Yellow Bonfire is the one song that stands out from the rest with an actual bonfire in the background of the song.
From the Rafters another favorite of mine from this album continues this 60s/70s beach sound with rich vocals and beautiful guitar instrumentals. Champion of the Beach continues with these bright summer melodies. The final track Summer Moon is a great ending track with the tempo being slowed down to give the listener this more mellowed out peaceful night track.
Cayucas sound of indie/surf pop helps them stick out from other indie-pop artists. The summer melodies keep this album fresh and appealing. I enjoyed this album a lot, it is probably one of my favorite albums I have covered so far on this website. Blue Summer will definitely fall into that summertime playlist in the future.
