KC Chiefs Franchise Tag Chris Jones

The Super Bowl champs are planning to franchise tag one of their big performers to get the Lombardi Trophy, defensive end Chris Jones.

Jones only played 13 games last season, but the made the most of his playing time. He led the team with 9 sacks on the season and made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. In the 2018 season, Jones finished third in the NFL with 15.5 sacks.

Jones said “It’s like a mix of emotions” being franchise tagged. “Because you figure, you know, after four years, you do everything the right way, within the team way, you try to stay under the line, out of trouble, and be a good citizen for a team and for the city, you expect to be rewarded. So you know when you’re hit with the franchise tag, it can go different ways. You can feel like they’re not valuing you or they’re not valuing what you bring to the table or you can look at it as giving them time to get their horses in a cage and get something together.”

Although Jones might not be too excited to be tagged, he won’t be too annoyed when he realizes the team that tagged him could very likely be back to back Super Bowl champions.
