Colby Covington Wants Immediate Rematch With Usman; Wants Boxing Match With 50 Cent

Colby Covington has made his return to the public eye today on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN and you guessed it wants an immediate rematch with the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman but didn’t quite stop there.

MMA fans last saw the former interim welterweight champion in action against Usman who he refers to as “Marty Fakenewsman” at UFC 245 in an epic 5-round fight where we saw arguably the two best welterweights on the planet go at it in a punch-fest. But to Covington’s dismay he claims he was robbed by referee Marc Goddard by not giving him a fair fight by giving Usman breaks due to Covington allegedly kicking him in the groin and poking him in the eye that Covington says was fake and meant to change the momentum of the fight. The fight was stopped late in the 5th round after Covington was dropped multiple times by punches to which Covington states he “slipped on a banana peel” and was clearly wearing the damage he absorbed from Usman, but after taking some ground and pound the fight was called and Covington protested immediately.

Covington pointed towards the fact that he was robbed of what he signed up for which is to “fight to the death” by Marc Goddard stating that Goddard “hates” him, and that he’s a [President] Trump hater, and that he’s a Michael Bisping and a Darren Till fan, therefore had it out for him. Covington would state that this was the first time he’s ever been refereed by Marc Goddard and had never had problems with him in the past. Covington said he felt the hate right away from Goddard when he came into his locker room presumably to run down the rules with him and what he expects from him just as every referee does before a fight. Covington states Goddard shouted at him while he was warming up saying “Colby, right here, right now!” Covington gave lots of interesting takes on the outcome of the fight and claims Goddard will never ref one of his fights ever again calling him a “corrupt incompetent ref” and even claiming the Nevada State Athletic Commission released his corner audio to Usman’s cornermen, therefore giving him the advantage of knowing about his injured jaw.

Covington would give a contradicting take on his alleged broken jaw that he claims wasn’t broken even though he claimed during the fight it was after telling his head coach Conan Silveira and after multiple reports that it was. The UFC reported after the fight that Covington “suffered a non-displaced midline mandible fracture.” Covington claims that the only person to have their jaw wired shut is New York rapper and actor/producer, 50 Cent. Covington claims 50 Cent got involved because of his trash talk after his loss to Usman and goes onto propose a celebrity boxing match against the rapper by tying one hand behind his back and giving all the proceeds to the American troops.

Covington would then go onto talk about the scuffle that happened between Usman and UFC BMF titleholder Jorge Masvidal at Miami’s radio row before the Super Bowl claiming it was “hilarious” and “pathetic”. Covington and Masvidal have once proclaimed good friends or even best friends due to Masvidal giving Covington a place on his couch when Covington was a struggling, upcoming fighter and both were training partners at the elite American Top Team camp. Covington has since turned his back on everyone including Masvidal which Covington now refers to as “Street Judas” and his ATT teammates claiming he’s not here to make friends rather make money and sell fights. Masvidal and Usman have been announced by UFC President Dana White on Jim Rome’s radio show and also Will Cain’s radio show that they will fight on International Fight Week, which is set in July but has yet to be scheduled. To Covington’s dismay he claims he should be the one to fight Usman claiming that “it’s only fair” and if the UFC doesn’t do it, they’re “corrupt and a fixed business.” Covington has made it clear that he and Dana White do not get along and claims he “doesn’t listen to anything Dana says” and was shocked to hear that that was the fight White was trying to make.

“I’m fighting for a world championship or I might not ever fight again.” Covington said. “We’ll see.”
