The execution of Texas inmate Rodney Reed is being delayed.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals issued a stay on Friday, just hours after the state’s parole board recommended Governor Greg Abbott delay the execution by 120 days.

Reed was convicted of killing a young woman more than 20 years ago, but there are claims new evidence will prove his innocence.

Reed was scheduled to be executed on Wednesday of this week.
