Rookie QB out of Ohio State Dwayne Haskins will get first career start

The 15th pick of the 2019 draft in Dwayne Haskins will get his first career start with the Redskins this Sunday.

Interim head coach Bill Callahan named Haskins the starter over Keenum because, well, he is still in the concussion protocol. But the Texas Longhorn legend Colt McCoy will remain the backup this Sunday against the Bills.

Haskins has not had a flashy rookie season so far as he has only completed 12 passes for 140 yards but also has 4 interceptions with no touchdowns. He joins four other rookie starting quarterbacks including Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Gardner Minshew, and Ryan Finley who also is getting his first start.

Callahan commented on Haskins saying “We’ve seen him progress throughout the week. That’s the big thing. His improvement day to day from situation to situation, from drill to drill, you see nothing but a locked-in focus. He had a pretty good early start of the week and finalized today with a lot of red-zone work. We’re very encouraged.”

The 1-7 Redskins and the 5-2 Bills will kick off at 12 PM in Buffalo this Sunday.
