My oh my…
Conor McGregor has been in the news quite a bit and he’s back in it again, but this time it could be good news for fight fans around the world.
A lot has been stirring the pot lately with Conor McGregor potentially making his return to the UFC octagon soon and with subtle reports from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto especially on his Instagram page, Conor McGregor is looking to make his UFC comeback against former UFC Lightweight Champion, Frankie Edgar, who has been linked to a fight with the Irishman for a very long time.
In the last couple of days, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has been posting interviews with fighters from Dominance MMA’s Management that held a media day for their fighters. One of the interviews was with Frankie Edgar and Okamoto asked Edgar to speculate why would McGregor want the fight now after several years have passed since both of these fighters were once in the same division being featherweight where McGregor was once the champion of that division.
“He’s a tough guy to figure out, you know,” Edgar told Okamoto. “Maybe he thinks he can beat me; I think that’s probably number one. He thinks he can beat me. I’m a name, I’ve been doing this for a while.”
“I’m game. He thinks he can beat me, let’s go.”
Manager of Dominance MMA and Frankie Edgar’s agent, Ali Abdelaziz has repeatedly said that Conor McGregor has no place in the UFC anymore ever since his loss to the hands of his top client and current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“His soul has been eaten by the one and only [Khabib],” Abdelaziz told Okamoto.
Abdelaziz has some pretty interesting clients being Khabib Nurmagomedov, Frankie Edgar, and Justin Gaethje who coincidentally all have ties to the Irishman with the two of them (Edgar and Gaethje) clamoring for a fight with the former two-division champion and the other giving him his last defeat via submission at UFC 229.
“I just hear I’m the guy he wants to come back to,” Edgar told ESPN on Tuesday. “I told him I want to fight him, I told the UFC I want to fight him.”
“But honestly, I don’t think the UFC wants that fight. I don’t know whether they don’t want it because they don’t want him to lose to me or they don’t think they can build it. I don’t know what it is. But ultimately … if he forces it, it could happen.
“He can make the call. Conor, if you want to do this, let’s do it, baby.”
Will we see the UFC’s biggest superstar return soon? Possibly by the end of this year or the beginning of next year? With McGregor, you never know, but also where there’s smoke there’s fire and crazier things have happened such as McGregor’s boxing match against Floyd Mayweather.
Be prepared.
