Conor McGregor has announced his return. Yes, you read that correctly.
During his press conference in Moscow, Russia, Conor McGregor announced that he will indeed make his long-awaited return to the UFC octagon this coming January at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Boom! There you have it.
McGregor said he’s coming back more focused and ready just like his run several years ago where we saw him win the UFC featherweight and lightweight championships. McGregor went on to say that he’s looking to go back to a more structured schedule, referencing billionaires’ schedules where their lifestyle was structured to where they went to bed at a certain time and went to sleep at a certain time leading to a successful lifestyle. He would then go on to reference his matchups with his bitter rival, Nate Diaz, where he claims in the first fight with the Californian, his training camp was “reckless.”
McGregor states, “I was not structured; I would train when I felt like it; there were no set times. The Nate Diaz II [fight], the rematch, I went to bed at a specific time, I woke up at a specific time. I was able to build the body up and get myself into prime physical condition to face a larger opponent who is known and renowned for his cardio-vascular abilities, so structure for me was the key to success in that one, the key to retribution and that’s what I’m in the process of regaining now.”
McGregor would claim his “hunger is rising” and states he desires to fight in Russia to reclaim the belt he once held at 155 pounds, but is now owned by his arch-rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor would state that the rematch between him and Nurmagomedov is “inevitable” but states he is not “waiting around” claiming that Nurmagomedov “is a known pull-out” and “does not take risks.”
McGregor would then go on to announce his comeback fight but also had some interesting statements to go along with his announcement. The Irishman would go on to claim that he has agreed to the date with the company, but as far as the opponent, McGregor claims he has the opponent’s name, but due to the concern from past experience, McGregor did not want to announce his opponent to the public due to the UFC being “a crafty company” with them potentially “flipping it” around and scratching the fight.
“Ask the UFC who the opponent is because I do not give a f— who the opponent is.” McGregor stated.
McGregor claims his comeback fight will be the beginning of his 2020 season and claims he is then looking to fight the winner of the upcoming super fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz who are scheduled for UFC 244 and wants to fight for the acclaimed “BMF” belt that McGregor claims he designed in a previous press conference the day before. Then, he claimed that he will seek the Moscow bout between him and the winner of Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight Championship.
