Conor, Conor, Conor.
In the news again? You better believe it. For something good? I’m afraid not.
Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has been accused of his second sexual assault in Dublin, Ireland just days ago. This being his second accusation in less than 12 months.
According to Tariq Panja of the New York Times, The most recent allegation relates to a complaint that a woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted in a vehicle parked outside a Dublin pub last week, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of Irish laws surrounding investigations. McGregor has not been charged, and the police have yet to interview him about the allegation. The former champion was already waiting to hear whether he would be charged following a complaint that he assaulted another woman in Dublin last December.
This is nothing new for the Irishman as the MMA world has seen one of their greatest superstars fall victim to controversy once again. McGregor has been clamoring for a fight in order to get back into the UFC octagon with reports of his potential fight with former UFC Lightweight Champion, Frankie Edgar gaining traction with both of the fighters agreeing to a bout in December on Twitter, but with all the legal trouble McGregor has gotten himself in, will we see him make the UFC walk again?
Current UFC Lightweight Champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov certainly sees no place in the UFC for McGregor and has reignited his feud with the Irishman on Twitter which is also not the first time. The first time being an ugly Twitter feud earlier this year where both fighters went way below the belt, talking about each other’s loved ones, insulting religion, posting pictures, etc.
This feud starts with UFC President Dana White’s interview with the Boston Globe this past Friday stating “Khabib is the man now. Conor isn’t the man anymore, so Khabib gets to sit back and call the shots.”
McGregor would go on to fire back on Twitter stating “Who’s not the man? Your man had that marquee event did he? More like an event in a marquee. A tent in the f****** sand it was. Keep spoofing to your self horse. Jockstrap sniffer championships.”
This post by McGregor would then go onto spark a back and forth Twitter feud which saw both fighters posting in Russian.
Earlier in the interview with the Boston Globe, Dana White was asked:
BG: “Do you think [McGregor] will ever be back?
DW: “He’ll be back next year.”
BG: “Any idea what you have cooking there?”
DW: “Next month at Madison Square Garden, we’ve got Diaz vs Masvidal, sold out. So whoever wins that fight could fight McGregor. We’ve got Cowboy Cerrone, we’ve got Justin Gaethje, but what Conor wants right now really is the Khabib rematch. So we’ll see how that whole thing plays out. But if you’re Khabib, you got the Tony Ferguson fight, George St. Pierre wants to fight, and you’ve got the Conor McGregor fight.”
Dana White would also add in another interview that he’s not looking to make the fight against McGregor and Frankie Edgar happen, but many times before we’ve seen statements like this from White and then all of a sudden, the fight is announced. So only time will tell, but the time for McGregor to make his return is constantly at risk.
