UFC 244 Sneak Peak of Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal

Written by: Stephen Hardy-Delaney

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are ready, but…are you ready?

Not only is the UFC 244 card stacked with fights including former champions, and former title challengers, it also includes elite strikers and devastating knockout artists.

Have you ever heard of the term “Murderer’s Row”? UFC 244 is just that with fights like the 8th ranked welterweight and former welterweight title challenger Darren Till testing the middleweight waters against the 4th ranked middleweight Kelvin Gastelum. Also included on the main card is the former welterweight title challenger and 9th ranked welterweight, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson vs 14th ranked welterweight Vicente Luque; former heavyweight challenger and 5th ranked heavyweight Derrick Lewis vs 9th ranked heavyweight Blagoy Ivanov; 7th ranked light heavyweight Corey Anderson vs the 10th ranked light heavyweight, and up and coming superstar, Johnny Walker, and possible undercard former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik. In the women’s division, the No. 1 Women’s Flyweight contender Katlyn Chookagian vs 5th ranked Women’s Flyweight contender Jennifer Maia.

Should all these fights come together in one night, it would be one of the most electrifying, I got my money’s worth and then some event of the year, but the UFC 244 press conference on Thursday was only a teaser of what’s to come on November 2nd.

On a night headlined by Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic, Nate Diaz made his long-awaited return to the Octagon after a 3-year hiatus at UFC 241 against former UFC Lightweight Champion, Anthony Pettis. Just days after his victory over Pettis, news broke that Diaz would take on Miami’s finest, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal at UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Masvidal, who is the current 3rd ranked welterweight in the world and is coming off a brutal, devastating, terrifying flying knee knockout victory over Ben Askren at UFC 239, was called out by Diaz who had just won his fight against Pettis stated that he is looking for the most dangerous fights that the UFC has to offer. Masvidal who was in attendance at UFC 241 was ecstatic at the fact he was called out by Diaz, and sure enough, fans were savoring the possibility that they could be witness to what could be one of the greatest potential fights in UFC history.

West Coast vs East Coast, West Coast Gangster vs the Miami Goon, Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal is an electric matchup, a matchup that people can only dream about, a matchup compared to something out of a “Street Fighter” video game. Who other than the heavyweight champion could be the baddest man on the planet? As fight news broke out, MMA fans were astonished at the fact that such a matchup was actually made, but not only is it a dream matchup, it’s the first non-title fight main event on pay-per-view since January 31st, 2015 when MMA fans had the privilege of witnessing UFC 183, Anderson Silva vs Nick Diaz, an electrifying fight between the former middleweight king who many consider the “Greatest of All-Time” and the Stockton Bad Boy who put on a show of a lifetime. The second non-title fight to headline a pay-per-view event was at UFC 202 on August 20, 2016, when the other half of Stockton’s finest, Nate Diaz took on Conor McGregor in a rematch for the ages.

The Diaz brothers seem to have something about them that makes them move needles, break records and headline UFC pay-per-views without a title on the line. Or is there? UFC President Dana White has gone on to say that this fight will be for the acclaimed “BMF” title and that whoever wins this fight will be crowned the “Baddest Mother F’er” on the planet.

At UFC 241, Nate Diaz proved once again that “ring rust” is a matter of fiction after an impressive performance against the electric Anthony Pettis proving that he is, in fact, one of the baddest men on the planet, and Jorge Masvidal is coming off back-to-back knockout victories of former welterweight title challenger, Darren Till, and the former Bellator and ONE Welterweight Champion Ben Askren proving he’s also one of the baddest men on the planet.

So, that leaves us to question who in fact is the baddest MF on the planet? Tune in on November 2nd to find out.
