For the fifth straight year, Texas Tech took care of business on Senior Night. This time, the Red Raiders defeated Abilene Christian, 3-0. It is Tech’s third-straight shutout, and the fourth time this season beating a team by three goals or more. The Red Raiders scored three goals in a half yet again, this time the scoring charged started just over a minute into the game. Just 70 seconds after first touch, Kirsten Davis bolted down the left side and scorched a shot on net, for her fifth goal of the season.
Demi Koulizakis would score a goal of her own, but it would come after Hannah Anderson added to the lead in the 28th minute. The opportunity was created by Davis, who once again scurried through the ACU backline. As she entered the 18-yard box, however, she was dragged down from behind. No card was given out, however, Tech received its first penalty kick opportunity of the season. Stone called upon the freshman defender Hannah Anderson, who buried it to make it 2-0. Anderson is now the second freshman to have already scored multiple goals this season.
Koulizakis’ chance came just 30 seconds later when Davis chased down two ACU defenders deep into the corner, where she stole the ball and found a wide-open Koulizakis and crossed it to her. Unguarded in front of the net, the senior scored the third and final goal of the match.
Tech has now won five Senior Night matches in a row going back to 2015. Despite losing three seniors from a year ago, they have only allowed two goals all season and offensively they have been on fire scoring 11 goals in the past three games and are tied for 11th in the country in goals per game at 3.5.
Tech will wrap up its four-game homestand Sunday, hosting Arkansas State for a 1 p.m. game at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Fans that bring a ticket from the Texas Tech football game will receive free admission.
