Texas Tech senior Sandy Scott will compete at The Walker Cup this weekend at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club as a member of the Great Britain and Ireland team.
Scott is coming off from winning The Carmel Cup and leading the Red Raiders to a team championship just last weekend, got the invitation into the prestigious Golf Club.
“It has been a goal of mine ever since I’ve been playing. It’s really exciting for me to get to play in an event like this,” Scott said. “I keep hearing from past players and captains from the team that this is one of the most nerve-wracking and exciting tournaments that I will ever play in. There’s nothing else you can ask for as a player. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Sandy Scott and John Farquhar are the only golfers in Texas Tech’s program history to ever play in the Walker Cup. Farquhar helped lead Tech to the 1959 Southwest Conference Championship and is in the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor.
The Raider Golf team will play at the Iverness Intercollegiate later this month in Toledo, Ohio to play in their second of four fall tournaments this year.
