Nadal beats Medvedev to win 19th career major.

Rafael Nadal won his 19th Grand Slam trophy over Daniil Medvedev yesterday in the U.S. Open final.

Medvedev who is a decade younger than Nadal and was competing in his first major title match was down by two sets and a break against the veteran. Medvedev changed up his style to give the No. 2 seed a challenge that he had not seen throughout the whole tournament.

At the end of the 4 hour, 50-minute battle, Nadal stopped Medvedev’s momentum and pulled out a 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 victory. The emotional champion said it was “one of the most emotional nights” of his tennis career.

Nadal is now one major win away from his longtime rival, Roger Federer’s record.
