The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra (LSO) received a Cultural District Project Grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) for the 2020 fiscal year. The TCA has selected 20 cultural districts across the state of Texas to receive grants totaling over $4.6 million. The grants range in amount from $5,500 to $250,000 and were offered to eligible arts organizations for projects that focus on cultural tourism efforts through activities such as marketing, infrastructure, and events. The LSO has received a $92,500 grant to support enhancements to the orchestra’s facilities with interior and exterior renovations to increase tourism during the Lubbock Cultural District’s First Friday Art Trail. “We are so thankful and fortunate to receive this grant,” said Galen Wixson, LSO president and CEO. “The much-needed renovations to our building will not only benefit the LSO, but also support the local economy and enhance cultural tourism throughout the city of Lubbock. We are very excited to see the positive changes to come.”
The remaining grants were awarded to organizations in the cultural districts of Abilene, Amarillo, Arlington, Canadian, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Galveston, Houston, McKinney, Rockport, San Angelo, San Antonio, Waco and Wimberley. “We are pleased to be able to provide strong support for so many high-profile arts activities across the state,” said Gary Gibbs, executive director of TCA. “The substantial work that our grantees are doing not only advances the arts in Texas, but it attracts visitors and additional dollars to our state and local economies.”
The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is one of the oldest community organizations in Lubbock. Founded in 1946, LSO is an integral part of the cultural fabric of the South Plains region and is made up of professional talented musicians from all parts of the Lubbock Community. The LSO seeks to enhance the community we serve by providing quality symphonic performances and educational experiences for thousands of children across the greater Lubbock area.
