Astros tie franchise record in victories in 3-0 win over Mariners

The Houston Astros beat the Seattle Mariners 3-0 late last night.

MVP candidate Alex Bregman hit his 40th homer and his 109th RBI on the year. Aledmys Diaz and Josh Reddick also helped out with each bringing in runs in the victory.

Pitcher Gerrit Cole had another double-digit strikeout performance with 14, tallying 316 total K’s on the year. He now has the most strikeouts in Astros history, passing J.R. Richard’s record set back in 1979. Cole only allowed 2 hits in seven innings pitched with a current ERA of 2.52.

Head coach A.J. Hinch “It’s incredible to watch him every time he goes out there, I love the way he talks about pitching, the way he thinks about pitching and how he goes out and executes.”

The win against Seattle has tied the franchise record of 103 wins, which was set last year. With 1 1/2 games ahead of the Yankees to have the best record in the whole league, the Astros are getting closer and closer to getting the first seed for the postseason.
