Defense lawyers are trying to halt the execution of a prison inmate over anti-Semitic remarks by the judge.
More than 100 Jewish attorneys from Texas filed and signed an amicus brief with the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in an effort to correct the case’s “judicial bias.”
Vickers Cunningham, who was the judge in Randy Halprin’s 2003 trial, reportedly made racist and anti-Semitic remarks.
Halprin is one of the “Texas Seven” who escaped in 2000, leading to the murder of an Irving police officer.
Four of the others have already been executed.
