Tech baseball defeats Army

The No. 8 Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated Army 11-2, in the first game of the Lubbock Regional at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. 

Today’s win notched Tech’s 40th on the season as of now the team is 40-17 and has a 26-6 home record on the year. Today’s win also marked head coach Tim Tadlocks 20th NCAA tournament win as a Red Raider, which improved his overall record to 279-149. 

Today Tadlock decided to start RHP freshman Micah Dallas and in the first inning he made quick work of the Army batters as he retired all three of them. Soon after Sophomore Gabe Holt continued the momentum with a triple down the left-field and was eventually sent home off a sac fly by freshman Tanner O’Tremba giving Tech an early 1-0 lead. 

Following that up Big 12 Co-player of the Year Josh Jung got on base with a single with two outs, soon after Senior Cameron Warren moved Jung over to third as he singled and was able to advance to second off a throw to third. Tech would kill all hope of Army getting a chance at bat as the received their third-straight two-out hit when sophomore Cody Masters sent Jung and Warren home to extend the lead to 3-0. 

As the game continued the bats for Tech were on fire as all nine starters got a hit and six Red Raiders have multiple hits including a home run from Warren in the bottom of the seventh, 

“Our offense was incredible today,” Dallas said. They gave me the confidence out there knowing I didn’t have to be perfect every pitch and the defense, Easton (Murrell) at third base made some incredible plays that’s for sure saved whatever I thought I had going” 

and Dallas continued to dominate on the mound through six innings as he retired 12 straight batters before he hit a batter with a pitch.  

“We haven’t seen too many guys that have the kind of stuff he has,” Army CF Jacob Hurtibise said, “with that hard fastball like that and the sharp slider.” 

Fortunately, the Red Raiders were able to keep army off the score board despite have two men on base. 

Dallas left the game with an 11-1 lead after seven innings pitched and only giving up three hits and most importantly stayed under 100 pitches 

The Red Raiders advanced to the winner’s bracket of the Lubbock Regional, where they will face Dallas Baptist at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be shown on ESPN3.
