Texas Tech junior Sandy Scott has earned PING All-America honors.
A Scotland native, Scott is the 15th All-America selection in program history after being named to the PING All-America Second Team on Thursday.
Scott’s season of accomplishments include being named All-Big 12, PING All-Region team, Academic All-Big 12, Haskins Award Watch List and a selection to the Arnold Palmer Cup International Team. His season was highlighted by the win at the El Macero Classic where he shot 75-66-72 – 213 (3-under) for his first collegiate victory. The win came after a second-place showing in Louisiana where he shot 64-65-74 – 203 for the 13-under scorecard. At the Big 12 Championship, Scott finished at 5-under (69-70-66 – 205) at The Greenbrier.
The second, third and honorable mention PING All-America Teams were announced by the GCAA on Thursday. Steven Fisk of Georgia Southern, Vanderbilt’s Will Gordon, Cole Hammer of Texas, Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State, California’s Collin Morikawa, Bryson Nimmer of Clemson, Florida State’s John Pak, Justin Suh of Southern California, and Arizona State’s Chun An Yu were previously named to the PING All-America First Team.
Joining Scott on the second team are BYU’s Peter Kuest, Andy Ogletree of Georgia Tech, Texas A&M’s Chandler Phillips, Trent Phillips of Georgia, Isaiah Salinda and Brandon Wu of Stanford, Louisville’s Matthias Schmid, Duke’s Alex Smalley and Cameron Young of Wake Forest.
Third-team honorees included John Augenstein and Patrick Martin of Vanderbilt, Duke’s Chandler Eaton, Austin Eckroat of Oklahoma State, McNeese State’s Blake Elliott, Philip Knowles of North Florida, TCU’s Stefano Mazzoli, Mac Meissner of SMU, Georgia Tech’s Luke Schniederjans, and Scott Stevens of South Carolina.
A total of 32 golfers were named honorable mention All-America. Scott joins Oscar Floren, Andrew Dresser, Nils Floren, Christopher Ward, Clement Sordet, Bryan Novoa, Jeff Mitchell and Mike Winfrey who earned All-America honors during their Tech career.
With a 70.2 scoring average, Scott tops the previous TTU record held by Clement Sordet who finished with a 70.9 average in the 2014-15 season for the Red Raiders. Oscar Floren ranks third and fourth, with a 71.2 average in 2006-07 and 71.5 in 2005-06. Following the season, Scott competed at the Arnold Palmer Cup where he helped the International Team to a win and is also playing in The Amateur in Ireland.
