Texas Tech junior shortstop Josh Jung and senior first baseman Cameron Warren were both named All-Americans on Monday by Baseball America.
Jung was recognized on the All-America second team, while Warren was a third-team pick in the publication’s annual selections of the top stars in college baseball. It is the second All-America accolade already for Jung, who earned second-team honors by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper just over a week ago.
The duo has helped boost Tech into one of the top offensive teams in the country, pushing the Red Raiders back to the College World Series in Omaha for the second-consecutive season and the fourth time in the past six years.
Jung, the Big 12 Co-Player of the Year, has been a dominating presence in the lineup again this season, hitting .342 overall with 14 home runs and 56 RBI from the middle of the lineup. Jung has reached base at a .476 clip that includes 22 doubles and 52 walks. Defensively, he moved midway through the season from third base to shortstop where he only has two errors on the season.
Three of Jung’s home runs came during the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional alone, including two in the decisive third game Sunday night where Tech rallied for an 8-6 victory over Oklahoma State. Jung connected on his second home run via a solo shot to lead off the eighth inning, which jump-started a four-run frame that helped the Red Raiders rally from a two-run deficit.
Warren, meanwhile, is in the midst of his best season as a Red Raider as he is hitting a team-leading .354 at the plate to go along with 17 home runs and 76 RBI. He has added 16 doubles and reached base at a .448 percentage, while also slugging a team-leading .664 overall. Warren has also been a vacuum defensively with a .996 fielding percentage and only two errors at first base.
The Red Raiders will return to TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha later this week where Tech will face Michigan in its College World Series opener. Game 1 of Tech’s series with Michigan is on Saturday, June 15th at 1:00 PM (CT).
