Texas Tech baseball’s Josh Jung has been named a Second Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings, it was announced Saturday.
It’s the sixth All-America honor for Jung this season and the 11th overall for the Red Raiders. Senior Cameron Warren also has four AA awards to his name while redshirt freshman Clayton Beeter received a freshman AA accolade as well.
The San Antonio native continues to collect hardware as he was previously recognized as the Big 12 Co-Player of the Year and the Bobby Bragan Award winner. Saturday’s honor gives him 14 career All-America and Freshman All-America nods.
Jung led the Red Raider to their fourth College World Series after possibly his most memorable performance as a Red Raider as he went deep twice in an 8-6 victory over Oklahoma State in the Super Regionals. In the CWS opener Saturday, he went 1-for-4 and scored a run as Tech battled to a 5-3 loss in against Michigan.
Jung, a San Antonio native, homered three times during the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional alone, giving him 14 now on the season to go along with a .341 average and 56 RBI. He has reached base at a .472 clip that also includes 22 doubles and 52 walks.
Defensively, Jung has proven to be one of the top infielders in the country once again, even with a position change from third base to shortstop midway through the season. Jung has only recorded three errors since his move to shortstop as Tech is 22-8 during that stretch.
Jung and the Red Raiders will look to extend their season on Monday in a 1 p.m. elimination game against No. 5 Arkansas. Coverage will be provided nationally on ESPN as well as the Texas Tech Sports Network.
