The No. 17 Texas Tech softball team ended the regular season on a high note as a three-run blast from Jessica Hartwell and seven-run bottom of the sixth lifted the Red Raiders to a 9-6 victory over No. 21 Kentucky on Senior Day.
In what proved to be a pivotal sixth inning, three Red Raiders – Peyton Blythe, Hartwell and Trenity Edwards– sent balls out of the park to give Tech its first lead of the game. The Red Raiders finished the game with 10 hits and Breanna Russell led all hitters with three on the day. Erin Edmounson, now 18-3, earned the victory after she entered the circle in relief in the top of the second. The sophomore southpaw fanned three hitters in 5.1 innings and limited a powerful Kentucky offense to just four hits.
With the top-25 victory, the Red Raiders finished the regular season with an impressive 38-13 record. Tech improved to 30-3 against non-conference opponents.
After going 38-13 in the regular season, Tech is set to head to Oklahoma City for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on May 10-11. Information on the conference tournament will be released later in the week.
