Tech Fans Snapping up Final Four Merchandise as Red Raiders Make History

Tech fans waited hours to purchase their souvenirs of history this weekend.

Tech fan Larry Rowden said he waited an hour and a half to get shirts for him and his wife. Another Tech fan, Steve Miller, said he got a shirt for himself, his son-in-law and his granddaughter

“We just got shirts for the whole family,” Miller said.

The win against Gonzaga sent Texas Tech Men’s Basketball to the Final Four for the first time in history.

“I’ve been a Tech fan for, oh golly, probably 50 years, and other than ’93 when the women won the national championship, I have never been so excited as I was last night,” Miller said.

Former Tech cheerleader Jennifer Smith said once she realized that the team was really doing it, she jumped up.

“I couldn’t stop laughing, I was in tears, we were excited, my parents called, and we were all just yelling on the phone,” Smith said.

Fans wasted no time, some heading to the store immediately after the game.

“We can go later, they’re probably not going to have things. And I’m like, babe, they’re going to sell out. So, I talked him into coming up here and he’s like, oh there’s a lot of people up here,” Smith said about her husband, another former Tech cheerleader.

To them, it’s more than a shirt. It’s a memory.

“It’s the first time in school history we’ve ever been to the Final Four, and we want to be a part of that,” Smith said.

Texas Tech will face Michigan State at 7:49 p.m. on Saturday in Minneapolis, MN as they make their historic run into the Final Four. Virginia will face Auburn at 5:09 p.m.
