In a game where plenty of home runs were hit, and the Rangers needed two rallies in order to stay in the game, the walk off victory came by a wild pitch from Cubs pitcher Pedro Strop, and Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo came in to score.
The Rangers trailed 4-0 before scoring five in the fourth inning off Cubs starter Cole Hamels. Delino Deshields finished it with the first grand slam of his career started the first rally, then Asdrubel Cabrera hit a two-run home run to to tie the game at 8-8. In the ninth inning, the Rangers managed to rally back for a large victory and earn their first series victory of the season.
Rangers pitching wasn’t good in the series opener, but the Texas sits at 2-1 to start the season, their best start since 2014. Lance Lynn allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings, and closer Jose Leclerc finished off Chicago for the Rangers victory.
Their next game is tomorrow against the Houston Astros at 7:05 p.m. Central Time.
