The No. 15 Texas Tech softball team (29-6, 2-4 Big 12) is on the hunt for its 30th win of the season as it returns home to Rocky Johnson Field to face No. 11 Texas in a three-game series on April 5-7.
The Red Raiders and Longhorns will kick off the series with a 6 p.m. start on Friday, April 5. First pitch in game two is slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, and the two teams will close out the series in front of a sold-out crowd at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. Live stats, as well as a live stream, will be available for all three games this weekend.
The Red Raiders clinched their first Big 12 series of the season at Iowa State. After rain postponed game one, Tech powered their way to an 8-3 victory before dropping game two, 6-5, later in the day. The Red Raiders rallied in game three and posted a come-from-behind victory to clinch the series.
Tied for the No. 1 spot in the school record book, Jessica Hartwell is one home run shy of becoming Tech’s all-time career home run leader. In her career at Tech, Hartwell has collected 45 home runs. Her next home run this season will place her ahead of alumna Mikey Kenney, who set the record with 45 home runs from 2010-13.
The Red Raiders enter the weekend with a 10-43 all-time series record against the Longhorns. The two teams first met back in 1997, but it was not until the 2000 season that Tech earned its first win over its in-state rival. The Red Raiders won their first series in that 2000 season and won its only other series over Texas during head coach Adrian Gregory’s first season in 2015. Texas has won the last 10 contests and the last Red Raider victory was a 3-2 decision in Austin Texas on April 8, 2016. Gregory is 3-11 in her career against Texas.
