Coming off its final home conference series of the season, the No. 13 Texas Tech softball team (35-9, 8-7 Big 12) is set to wrap up Big 12 Conference play with a key series at Oklahoma State on April 26-28.
Game one in Stillwater, Okla., is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and game two is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. The two teams will close out the series on Sunday, April 28, at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for all three games.
After a solid performance against the Kansas Jayhawks last week, junior Karli Hamilton earned her third Big 12 Player of the Week award of the season on Tuesday, April 23. Hitting an even .500 on the week, Hamilton paced the Red Raiders with six hits, one home run, two doubles and three RBI against the Jayhawks. She led the league with 11 total bases and tied for the No. 1 spot in the conference with five runs – 1.7 runs per game – and two stolen bases.
Tied for the No. 1 spot in the school record book, senior All-American Jessica Hartwell is one home run shy of becoming Tech’s all-time career home run leader. IN her career as a Red Raider, Hartwell has collected 45 home runs. Her next home run will place her ahead of alumna Mikey Kenney, who set the record with 45 home runs from 2010-13.
The Texas Tech softball team snapped a 21-year-old record of nine straight weeks in the Top 25 after it stood among the nation’s leaders for the 10th consecutive week on Tuesday, April 23. Head coach Adrian Gregory’s Red Raiders came in at No. 13 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, No. 16 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball and Softball America Polls and No. 21 in the NCAA Women’s Softball RPI. Tech has been ranked in top 15 of the NFCA Coaches Poll for eight straight weeks and has not dipped below No. 16 in the remaining polls since its initial ranking on Feb. 19.
The Red Raiders and Cowgirls hold a fierce rivalry that dates back to the 1996 season. Oklahoma State holds a 36-24 all-time series lead over Tech and head coach Adrian Gregory is 7-6 against the Cowgirls.
