The No. 13 Texas Tech softball team held the lead two separate times, but the Red Raiders could not hold on and dropped a 6-5 heartbreaker to No. 12 Oklahoma State in their final Big 12 Conference game of the season.
Home runs from freshman Zoe Jones and Jessica Hartwell gave the Red Raiders early momentum as Tech finished the game with nine hits to Oklahoma State’s seven. Jones, Heaven Burton and Karli Hamilton all recorded two hits and Hartwell, Peyton Blythe and Taylor Satchell were the other Red Raiders to record hits.
In her 18th start of the season, Erin Edmoundson (16-3) racked up eight strikeouts and blanked the Cowgirls for the first four innings of the matchup. However, a game-ending home run in the bottom of the seventh sealed her third loss of the season and Tech dropped to 35-12 on the season and 8-10 in league play.
Oklahoma State’s Chelsea Alexander started the bottom of the seventh with a bunt but the Tech defense quickly bounced back with a fly out to right for out number one. However, Tech could not hold the momentum and a double and walk-off home run ended the game, 6-5, in favor of the hosting Cowgirls.
Now done with Big 12 Conference play, the Red Raiders will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., for a mid-week doubleheader at New Mexico State on Tuesday, April 30.
