Coming off a historic sweep at Baylor last weekend, the No. 12 Texas Tech softball team (33-8, 6-6 Big 12) looks to carry its momentum as it hosts the Kansas Jayhawks in a three-game conference series at Rocky Johnson Field on April 18-20.
The Red Raiders will open the series with a 6 p.m. game against the Jayhawks on Thursday, April 18, and game two is set to start at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 19. The Two teams will wrap up the series at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. Live stats, as well as a live stream, will be available for all three games.
Continuing its historic season, Texas Tech eclipsed its 31-28 mark from 2018 thanks to a three-game sweep at Baylor last weekend. Now 33-8 on the season, the Red Raiders have put together their most wins since 2014. The Red Raiders recorded 30-plus wins in now 11 seasons – 1997 (34-29-1), 1998 (45-19), 1999 (36-31), 2001 (37-24), 2010 (38-18), 2011 (42-16), 2012 (41-17), 2013 (30-26), 2014 (35-19), 2018 (31-28), 2019 (current 33-8).
Tied for the No. 1 spot in the school record book, senior All-American Jessica Hartwell is one home run shy of becoming Tech’s all-time career home run leader. In her Tech career, Hartwell has collected 45 home runs. Her next home run this season will place her ahead of alumna Mike Kenney, who set the record with 45 home runs from 2010-13.
With a series history that dates back 23 years, Kansas comes to Rocky Johnson Field with a 35-24 all-time series lead over the Red Raiders. Tech has prevailed in the last four contests against the Jayhawks – a streak that included a three-game sweep at Kansas in 2018. Tech’s longest winning streak was five games from March 11, 1999 – March 8, 2001, and the Red Raiders are 10-18 at home against Kansas. Head coach Adrian Gregory is 6-6 against Kansas.
