The Museum of Texas Tech Association will host the sixth annual “Art on the Llano Estacado Show and Sale”Saturday and Sunday (April 27–28.)
The event opens at 6 p.m. Saturday (April 27) at the Museum of Texas Tech University’s Helen Devitt Jones Sculpture Court. Tickets can be purchased for $150 through the Museum of Texas Tech University Association office. Contact the office at (806) 742-2443 or email jouana.stravlo@ttu.edu.
“Art on the Llano Estacado” is a fundraiser to support the Museum of Texas Tech in its efforts to provide quality programming, exhibits and a variety of free educational opportunities for children and adults in the community.
The event will feature about 200 original works by 40 artists from across the Southwest, representing a wide variety of styles and media.
The Legacy Award also will be presented at the event. This award is given to one artist each year who has participated in the show for many years. Recipients’ character and work must reflect the spirit of the event to receive the award. The 2019 Legacy Award recipient will be Toni Arnett, a Lubbock-based painter.
“Toni is always a crowd favorite and has participated in our show for the past five years,” said Jouana Stravlo, executive administrator of the Museum of Texas Tech University Association. “She is a colorful artist whose art education came mainly from workshops taught by artists she admired like Frank Gervais, Millard Sheets and Glenna Goodacre. Toni is a Lubbock artist, and we are thrilled to honor her this year. She has contributed much to our art community over the years.”
The opening reception will feature a meet-and-greet with the artists, the first opportunity to buy art, cocktails, a buffet dinner and entertainment by the South Plains Faculty Combo. During the reception, a portrait sitting by artist Paul Milosevich will be offered during a silent auction.
Any unsold art will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis during the free public exhibition and art sale on Sunday (April 28) from 1–4 p.m. This portion of the event is free and open to the public.
