The Texas Tech women’s golf team is in second place following two rounds of play at the second annual Bruzzy Challenge in Argyle, Texas.
All five of the Red Raiders participating in team scoring shot even par or better in the first day of action at the Lantana Golf Club.
Tech was once again led by sophomore Sofia Garcia, who is in first place on the individual leaderboard following a 9-under performance in her first two rounds. Garcia recorded seven birdies to just one bogey in her first round as she shot a team-leading 66. She also notched eight birdies in her second round, also a team best. Cecilie Nielsen finished her day at 4-under, after notching six birdies in the first round and two in the second. Freshman Anna Dong, who is carrying the Folds of Honor bag for the Red Raiders this week, completed her day at 2-under.
Louisa Brunt also concluded play under par, as she tallied seven birdies on the day en route to a final mark of 1-under. Senior Mami Yamamoto rounded out the scoring for Tech with an even par performance.
Destiny Arenas, who competed as an individual, finished the first day of action at 22-over.
Tech will be seeking its second-consecutive stroke play championship as it concludes the 2019 Bruzzy Challenge with 18 holes of play on today. Play started at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
