Texas Tech junior Sandy Scott shot 15-under-par with 14 birdies and an eagle on the opening day of the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational on Monday to take the lead after 36 holes at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget.
Scott shot 64-65 – 129 to lead the No. 10 Red Raiders who combined for a 28-under total which puts them in second place behind TCU which is at 36-under going into Tuesday’s final round at the 18-team event. Tech recorded a 274-274 – 548, while the Horned Frogs are at 269-271 – 540 through two rounds.
The tournament will resume at 9 a.m. on Tuesday for the final round in Louisiana.
The Red Raiders have two regular-season tournaments remaining after the Lake Charles Invitational with the Aggie Invitational on April 6-7 in College Station and then the El Macero Classic on April 12014 in El Macero, California. The tournaments will lead into the Big 12 Conference Championships on April 26-28 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
